2nd Place: Rohan Island in Prague

De Architekten Cie., M2AU and LOLA Landscape Architects were awarded second place in the international competition for the transformation of Rohan and Libeň Island in Prague.

The proposal addresses a significant stretch of the Vltava River where natural systems and urban development have long been in tension, offering a long-term strategy for biodiversity, flood resilience and the relationship between the river landscape and the surrounding city.

The Visualization Brief
A landscape masterplan at this scale presents a particular challenge: the vision has to read at the level of the whole while remaining specific enough to feel real at the level of a person standing in it.

The brief was substantial and the timeframe tight. We worked through both and delivered a set of images that communicated the environmental logic and spatial structure of the proposal clearly enough for a jury to follow.

Beyond the Brief
One image in the set wasn’t asked for. We wanted to show the river at its most quiet: a misty evening over the Vltava, the Prague skyline dissolving into the haze, the viewing platform holding its place above the water.

The kind of moment the proposal was ultimately designed around, when the city slows down and the river belongs to everyone.
